LS1/LS2 coils dwell limiter question

In the megamanual section on the LSx coils, it is stated that the coils self-limit dwell to about 8 mS. Has anyone tested and verified this? It seems line a somewhat complicated task. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to do this, the coil would have to "know" the current engine RPM, predict the timing of ...

Re: Question re: 8-1 crank wheel and dual spark

Thanks, Paul.
I appreciate the insight
I will need to add a wheel to get to 36-1. I'll have a closer look.

Question re: 8-1 crank wheel and dual spark

Hi, folks.
I will be using microsquirt in dual spark mode on a Yamaha XV920. Single-tooth wheel on the cam, and a 8-1 wheel on the crank. I understand that my cam synch pulse must occur during the crank wheel missing tooth window.
I would like to make my 8-1 wheel as follows:

When does cam sync have to coincide with TDC?

Hi, folks. I apologize. I KNOW I read this somewhere, but cannot find it now. Here's the question:
If running dual spark mode, with single-tooth cam wheel... what setups require the cam pulse to occur at a specific time (TDC) and which setups allow the cam pulse to occur "anytime" in the crankshaft ...

As for the topic of idle stability, can you point me to specific threads that discuss this?

I can recall seeing one, where the user went to beta hi-resolution code to fix the problem, but am not finding it now.

Not sure how much power/boost you are planning. I am not going wild with boost ...

The following assumes you know your engine stock rated HP/Torque.

I would start here:

Thanks! I think I'm (slowly) getting my act together. One problem was I had not downloaded 2.8x code, so was not seeing the dual-spark menu options.

I think my path is fairly well defined. :
MicroSquirt, Dual Spark Mode "Dual Tach Input" , "Odd Angle" =0.
VR sensors connected similarly to this ...

Correct, Jean. The factory ignition on this engine is one coil per cyl. The uS-fired ignition must be this way also.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that without camshaft position sensor, only wasted spark is possible. However, with current draw budget so tight, I hate to double the coil current draw.

So, I am seeking input on how to solve this. Would a GPIO board give me the additional VR sensor input I need ...

.... addendum

Of course, as soon as I posted I saw the Moto Guzzi thread a few down from mine. Seems to answer a few of my questions.

Seems like if I'm OK with batch fire fuel and wasted spark ignition... I don't need the uS-Sequencer product (due to having 2 VR tach inputs 75 degrees apart?). But, a cam sensor ...
