pyrometrics....

Yes, I'm quite interested in trying this out...

A lot of the tuning game is seat of the pants, but as with so many other things related to sensory input, its easy to become speed-blind, so I allways like to have some "objective" instrumentation input for reference...

Allso a good idea if one, like ...

The budget...

At the hobby level I'm working, I can't really justify the costs and the effort required to pull the engine for dyno-tuning, so I have no choice to but to make do with the bum-dyno (seat-of -pants).. :D

But I've been thinking....

After a good bit of reading up, I've come to the understanding that ...

balancing timing and fueling...

Got my '71 Dodge Dart 318 up and running with a OK baselione fuel and ignition map.

Got most of the stoiciometric mapping done on the O2 sensor, and the ignition map is probably pretty close to standard factory set up except for an idle advance of 19-20 deg.

So what remains to be done is high ...

bubbles

Hmm.. I nteresting theory about smaller bubbles getting bigger, they probably will tend to to some degree, but there is a limit to how much they will expand, I think serious bubbling will probably have to come from a heat soak where the petrol is evaporating/ boiling conciderably.

Check out this ...

Interresting!

That's a good elimination approach!

Some further investigations have shed some more light on things...
When I noticed these fluctuations it was because I had a look under5 the hood as I thought the fuel pump sounded a bit peculiar...

The engine was then well hot and had been idling for a while ...

interesting..

Looking at the pressure gauge on my car when idling a hot engine, I noticed that the needle was fluctuating quite a bit, and that the idle was not entirely even, allthough not bad in any way.

I am running a performance cam on my Dodge 318 V-8, but nothing really radical.

Could the fluctuations I ...

Oooohhh!!

"Nope, flood clear mode is not activated"... Yeah. right.......

Do i feel stupid or what!!???

You were absolutely right Lance, flood clear was the reason i didn't get any injector pulsing during cranking!

I looked at the value for entering flood clear thresshold, and for the ...

Ah!

Nope, flood clear mode is not activated, and to the best of my understanding everything is ok in the power department!
After All, I drove the4 car before converting to the new code...

Datalogging..... Duh!!! How obvious!!!
That should tell me if the injectors are being fired or not!!!
Why wasn't I ...

Hmmm..

CHB wrote:do you all think this map will work on my 3TC?

To me, that MAP looks a bit up-side down.. least advance at low manifold pressure in thstead of the other way around???

High vacuum = high advance :!:

Good guide!

Excellent guidelines for setting up a starting point ignition map Lance!

After uppgrading to headers and dual 2,5" exhaust and goint to squirt'n spark extra, I really wanted to use the "standard" ignition timing for my car, but that was sort of lost as i locked up the distributor and threq the ...
